UPDATED: Arlington Under Flash Flood, Severe Thunderstorm Watches

… A FLASH FLOOD WATCH WILL BE IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON TO LATE SATURDAY NIGHT…

A warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Sterling, Virginia.

* A flash flood warning has been issued for parts of DC, Maryland, and northern Virginia, including the following locations: DC, District of Columbia. Anne Arundel, Cecil, Central and Southeast Howard, Central and Southeast Montgomery, Northern Baltimore, Northwest Harford, Prince Georges, Southeast Harford, and Southern Baltimore are all counties in the state of Maryland. Arlington/Falls Church/Alexandria and Fairfax are in northern Virginia.

* From late Saturday afternoon through early Sunday morning.

* Several rounds of thunderstorms are forecast for Saturday afternoon and overnight, with the possibility of persisting until early Sunday morning. At times, localized rainfall of up to 1-2 inches per hour will be possible. Rainfall totals of 1-3 inches are expected, with greater amounts locally.

*Heavy rain over short periods of time will cause streams and creeks to swiftly overflow their banks, as well as the risk of flash floods in metropolitan areas.
