Mike Richards has declared that he would no longer host Jeopardy!, just days after stories surfaced detailing sexist and other improper comments he made while presenting a podcast.
Richards said in an email to staff that was shared with NPR on Friday, “I will be stepping down as host effective immediately.”
Richards’ comments on a podcast from his time on The Price Is Right have put his new hosting gig in jeopardy, following previous allegations of a hostile work climate and doubts about how the quiz show’s executive producer was picked for the coveted hosting role.
In an email to NPR, a Sony Pictures Television spokeswoman said, “We support Mike’s decision to stand down as host.” “We were taken aback this week when we learned about Mike’s 2013/2014 podcast and his previous usage of harsh language. We’ve discussed our concerns and aspirations for the future with him. “
Richards will continue to be the show’s host. “It is our expectation that, as EP, he will continue to do so with professionalism and respect,” the corporate representative continued.
